Easy Turkey Chili

This easy turkey chili recipe has been a fallback staple in my dinner planning strategy for several years now. It’s inexpensive, the prep is fast, and with a few simple adjustments, it can easily feed as many people as you need to. Please note, I had a few different chili powders on hand, so my tablespoon of chili powder was a blend of chipotle chili powder and plain chili powder.

To stretch this recipe out to serve 6-8 people, add 2 cans of beans, rinsed and drained, to the initial recipe in addition to any other desired add-on. If you serve with a pot of white rice, mashed potatoes, or really any other starch, then you can feed up to 8 people easy peasy!

Ingredients

1/2 tsp each salt, oregano, and garlic powder

1 1/2 tsp ground cumin

1 tbsp chili powder

16 – 20 oz ground turkey

1 8-oz can tomato sauce

Optional Ingredients:

15-oz can black beans, drained and rinsed

14.5-oz can fire-roasted corn, drained

4-oz can diced green chiles, drained

Topping ideas:

Salsa, sour cream, hot sauce, shredded cheese, corn chips, scallions, cilantro

Directions

Since this recipe comes together pretty fast once you get started, you should first measure out your salt, oregano, garlic powder, cumin, and chili powder.

In a medium pot over medium-high heat add the ground turkey and cook all the way through, then drain off any excess fat. Next, pour in the tomato sauce and spices, then stir together to combine. From there mix in your optional ingredients: beans, tomatoes, and any other optional add-ons, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer on the stove for 15-20 minutes.

Serve your easy turkey chili with shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, cornbread, or anything else your heart desires!
